Handle dispute and takedown.

Last updated: 2026-09-20

This is the public path to dispute a claimed Registry handle or request a takedown of published brand files. It applies to Encoder and to the Registry. The Terms of Service remain the legal source.

When to use this

Use this path if:

  • Someone claimed a Registry handle for a brand you are authorized to manage.
  • Published files impersonate your brand or misuse your marks.
  • Published files infringe copyright, trademark, or another right you control.
  • You need a published record taken offline while Encoded investigates.

A claimed record is live and managed by an account. It is signed for integrity. It is not proof that the publisher controls the brand's domain. Only a current DNS attestation sets trust_level: verified and official_brand_source: true.

How to file

Email team@encodedbrands.ai. Include:

  1. The Registry handle, for example acme-1a2b3c4d.
  2. The public Registry URL or MCP URL for that handle.
  3. Your name, organization, and a working contact email.
  4. The right you assert, and why this record is unauthorized or infringing.
  5. The action you want: transfer, unpublish, or takedown pending review.

We may ask the publishing account for a response. We may remove or disable the public record while we investigate. We may terminate accounts that repeatedly infringe other people's rights.

What this is not

This path does not grant official_brand_source: true. Only a fresh Registry DNS challenge can do that. It does not restore a deleted record by toggling a stored boolean. Encoded does not become the publisher of customer files by hosting them.

For verification, brand transfer, certification, or other account questions that are not a dispute, write to the same address and say so in the subject line.

Trust at connect time

When you choose or connect a handle, read the Registry trust tuple before treating the record as official:

  • trust_level
  • official_brand_source
  • verification_method
  • verified_domain
  • verified_at
  • verification_last_checked_at
  • verification_expires_at

Treat a claimed record as useful context, not as the official brand source.
